Welcome to the Arts and Sciences of the Middle Ages!
The Society for Creative Anachronism fosters the research and re-creation of all forms of dark age, medieval, renaissance, and Elizabethan artwork, science, and craftsmanship. In the Shire of Glaedenfeld, we have people actively working on costuming, calligraphy and illumination, mead and wine making, herbal studies, armoring, music, middle eastern studies, embroidery, spinning, weaving, cooking, ceramics, building kilns and ovens, mongolian studies, middle eastern and european dance, and foreign language? Just for a start!
The Kingdom of Meridies hosts competitions for the display and performance of art work and research papers. Classes are regularly taught at most events, and dances are held in the evenings for both European and Middle Eastern styles.
As the local minister of arts and sciences, I try to keep track of what everybody is doing, offer encouragement, and provide advice on where to seek assistance. I can answer most questions related to calligraphy and illumination, and many about italian maiolica and general costuming. I can also help you with your documentation — that is, how to prove to other folks that your art work is "period". If you have questions or interests outside my fields of expertise, I can hook you up with folks who specialize in those interests.
We do not at this time have a regular A&S meeting, although informally folks will get together for special interests — illuminating scrolls, sewing circles, and the like. When and if there is interest, classes may be scheduled following meetings. Talk to me if you are interested in teaching a class or would like to see a class taught, and I'll see what I can put together for you!
